You've helped raise £1 million for British Heart Foundation
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) accepted a donation for a massive one million pounds today from Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), the parent company of Southern Electric, at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Perth.
SSE raised the money through energyplus Pulse, a payment plan for customers who want to help make a life-changing difference to millions of people living with heart disease in the UK, as well as their families and friends. For each customer who signed up to the tariff the company donated £10 to the nation’s heart charity for every year they remained with the brand. The one million pounds raised will help the BHF save lives through pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and by providing vital information.
British Heart Foundation Chief Executive Peter Hollins said:
“It is fantastic that SSE customers have raised such a significant amount of money for the BHF. Heart disease touches us all and claims around 200,000 lives each year.
“The £1 million raised by SSE will help us to continue our life-saving work to help us beat the UK’s biggest killer through funding our vital research. It will also help support and care for the 2.5 million people living with heart disease in the UK today.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone at SSE for their brilliant support for the BHF - because together we can beat heart disease.”
SSE Director of Corporate Affairs, Alan Young said: “Our energyplus Pulse customers are helping many patients who can find their condition very frightening and confusing. Reaching our million pound goal is going to make a noticeable difference to millions of people living with heart disease, a condition which can affect anyone at any time in their life.
He added: “The BHF provides vital support to people living with heart disease and their families. Through its HeartHelp Line the charity helps heart patients learn more about their heart condition and take control of their own health. Every month the service, which is manned by cardiac nurses and information officers, handles around 1,000 calls, 200 emails and between 30 and 40 letters.
"By switching to energyplus Pulse, our energy customers are doing their bit to support this ground-breaking work.”
